Battlefield 6 is inching closer to launch, and to keep players engaged following the second open beta weekend, EA and its Battlefield Studios teams have added new content to Battlefield 2042 as part of update 9.2. Battlefield 2042 didn’t have a very strong start, but over the years, it got plenty of updates that pushed it into a much better place with the gaming community. This latest update is an attempt to keep that momentum going a little longer, even though the game’s successor is now just under a couple of months away.

Battlefield 2042 update 9.2 adds a handful of new content alongside a new event. This should help keep some players engaged within the Battlefield universe. That’s no doubt EA’s hope – to keep players from moving away from Battlefield to other shooters. Though EA also likely had this content patch planned for a while. As part of the new update, players will get access to a new map, some new weapons, and new stuff that has to do with the vehicles as well.

Battlefield 2042 update 9.2 includes two new weapons and two new vehicles

While this is most certainly not Battlefield 2042’s biggest update, it should be a nice surprise for those still playing the game. Some of the new content being added includes two new weapons to toss into your kit. First, there’s the KFS2000 assault rifle. This utilizes a bullpup design, which EA says helps the gun’s accuracy. Then, there’s the Lynx.

This high-powered sniper rifle is intended to “demolish environments and deal damage to vehicles,” so this should do some hefty damage for those who prefer to take people out from longer distances. There is one catch to this gun. With the update, it’s only going to be available for people who participated in the Battlefield 6 open beta. To be more specific, those who participated in the beta will be given the gun right away. It’ll be available for players who didn’t participate “down the line,” EA says. Additionally, there are going to be two new attack jets being introduced. These will only be for the All Out Warfare mode and will be the A10 Warthog and the SU-25TM Frogfoot.

Players will battle it out across Iwo Jima

The other big thing being added with this update is the new Iwo Jima map. It’s a 700 x 200 map size, which EA says will give players plenty to explore. There’s going to be a themed event coming with this update as well. Called the Best of Portal event, it’ll run from September 2 to September 30 and offer new rewards to players who participate. There’s going to be a battle pass with 60 new free tiers as well. So, there’s a lot to unlock as you play. All of this content will be available as part of the current update. Some of the themed content, as well as the battle pass, will only stick around until October 7. That’s just three days before the launch of Battlefield 6. Battlefield 6 will launch on October 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
