TSMC, or Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, has announced its plan to open a third chip manufacturing unit in Arizona, US. The manufacturer is reportedly targeting the development of its third 2nm tech manufacturing unit. It is targeting to finalize the process as soon as possible and start the production by 2027.

TSMC plans to start a new 2nm chip manufacturing unit in Arizona

As of right now, the TSMC already has two manufacturing units in Arizona. The first unit focuses on manufacturing a 4nm based chipset. It has reportedly started delivering the product to tech giants such as Apple and Nvidia already. The second manufacturing plant is expected to be deployed for the manufacturing of 3nm tech.

Now, the firm has reportedly filed a new plan with the Commerce Department that talks about its plan to develop a third manufacturing unit in the region. The new unit will be primarily developed for the manufacturing of 2nm chips.

The third manufacturing unit will produce 2nm chips by 2027

Going according to the press release, the third unit will be called “P3”. And it is expected to start operations by the end of the decade. However, the brand seems to be moving fast with the plan. The TSMC is now supposed to finalize the contractor for the new facility by the year’s end, and subsequently, the production may start by the year 2027.

Not only this, the construction partners of the TSMC have gained the regional access and license in the US. This further allows the brand to ramp up its process. If everything goes well, the construction of the third plant can be finished in just four quarters, which is like one quarter ahead of the brand’s planned schedule.
