iPhone 17 Pro’s MagSafe Is Getting a Makeover — But Don’t Worry

If you’ve ever seen Apple’s official transparent iPhone, it shows exactly where in the case MagSafe is aligned. It is towards the middle of the phone depicted by a circle, with a little “tail” bit at the bottom. However, that could change. According to new photos, Apple could change up the design of MagSafe for the iPhone 17 Pro series.

iPhone 17 Pro could sport new MagSafe design

According to photos shared by tipster Majin Bu Official, Apple could alter the design of MagSafe on the iPhone 17 Pro slightly. Instead of featuring a complete circle, it now features a circle with a slight opening at the bottom. The report also suggests that Apple could shift the position of the Apple logo further down the phone.

There really is no reasoning for the change in the logo’s position. As you might have heard, Apple could give the iPhone 17 Pro series a larger camera module. Shifting the logo towards the bottom of the phone allows it to remain obvious. So, if anything, this sounds like it is purely for aesthetic reasons rather than a functional one.

If you are worried that this could result in incompatibility with existing MagSafe accessories, don’t. Apparently, for the most part, it shouldn’t have much of an impact.  According to Majin Bu, “Though primarily aesthetic, the magnet shift might require a slight recalibration of the magnetic field to prevent minor interference. Early feedback from manufacturers indicates that existing MagSafe accessories will remain compatible.”

No change for base model

That being said, this change could only be for the iPhone 17 Pro series. Based on the leaked renders and photos we’ve seen so far, the base iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air won’t look too different from their predecessors. Granted, for the most part, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will still look like the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. The main difference has to do with the camera module.

This means that it is unlikely this redesigned MagSafe will reach the other iPhone 17 models. Apple will announce its new iPhone 17 series later this year, possibly around September. So, until then, take it with a grain of salt.
