The countdown has begun for Samsung‘s One UI 8 update. The Korean tech giant is currently in the beta phase and continues to provide updates to users without delay. Most recently, the third beta version was released, fixing annoying system issues.
The fact that the latest beta only focused on bug fixes doesn’t mean that Samsung isn’t working on new features, as recent reports suggest that the brand is testing a new One UI 8 feature that will add a dynamic photo effect to still photos.
One UI 8’s Dynamic Effect will animate photos, adding one more key feature
According to Ice Universe, Samsung is working on a new One UI 8 feature for the Gallery app called Dynamic Effect. It is similar to the Live Effect already available on models released after the Galaxy S21, but it comes with some important differences.
Live Effect turns still photos into short animated clips, while Dynamic Effect lets you move objects in photos up, down, or sideways.
That’s all the details we know about the new feature. However, sources say that Dynamic Effect will most likely be merged with Live Effect. This makes sense, as it wouldn’t be practical to offer two features that provide a fundamentally similar experience separately.
The source shared a video showing the feature working on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This means that models that can use the Live Effect can probably also use the Dynamic Effect.
When will Samsung release the One UI 8 stable version?
Samsung will do something it hasn’t done before. The company has released major OS updates with the Galaxy S series so far. This year, it will shift focus and release the stable One UI 8 with its foldable phones.
Samsung will launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 with Android 16-based One UI 8 preloaded on July 9. After the event, the public rollout will start. It will update the Galaxy S25 series first, then roll out the update to flagship models from previous years.
