Remember when Samsung announced its shiny new Galaxy AI features early last year? There was a bit of a buzz—and some concern—about whether these smart capabilities would eventually come with a subscription fee. The same company had only confirmed that the features would be free until the end of 2025. Now, Samsung has confirmed which “core” Galaxy AI functions will remain free of charge indefinitely.
This confirmation comes after some initial uncertainty. Samsung had hinted that some AI features might become paid after a certain period, but we didn’t know which ones. The company is now being clearer: the essential, most frequently used Galaxy AI tools that process data directly on your device won’t require a subscription. This includes popular functions that enhance communication, productivity, and creativity.
Samsung confirms it will not charge for Galaxy AI “core” features
In a confirmation to Android Police, a Samsung rep said that all Galaxy AI features that “are on your phone by default” will be free forever. With this, Samsung is referring to the features developed individually by the company. The list includes Live Translate, Note Assist in Samsung Notes, Zoom Nightography, Audio Eraser, Browsing Assist, and Generative Wallpapers, among others.
So, which features will be paid for? Mainly those that don’t rely solely on Samsung to function. The Galaxy AI suite also includes features powered by Google’s AI models or technology—mainly Gemini-related—presumably charging Samsung for it. Samsung has been offering these features for free temporarily in some form, either by reaching an agreement with Google or absorbing the costs. Either way, that will likely end later this year.
That said, there are no details yet on how much users will have to pay from then on. If you want to keep all the Galaxy AI features, you’ll likely have to pay a monthly fee. We’ll have to wait and see how much this fee will be and how users react.
