Sony will finally let you pair your PS5 controller to multiple devices

Sony’s DualSense controller for the PS5 is arguably the most comfortable and best controller available on the market, and now it’s finally getting a feature it should have had since the PS5’s release – multi-device pairing. If you own at least one DualSense controller and you use it with more than just your PS5, then you know the struggle of having to pair it with each device every single time you want to swap.
You can easily avoid this by having multiple controllers. However, that can get expensive. So, what’s a gamer to do if they only have one PS5 controller but want to use it with more than just PS5? Well, until now, you had to deal with pairing it to the device you planned to use it with every time. Then you’d have to re-pair it when switching devices again. It was a tedious process that wasn’t particularly enjoyable. Thankfully, that’s finally changing.
Multi-device pairing for the PS5 controller is available in the latest software beta update
This is an important factor to make note of because it means not everyone will have access to it right away. That’s a shame, because it’s genuinely one of the better quality-of-life features Sony has added in a while. Having said that, if you have access to the latest beta update, you should be able to use this feature as soon as the update has been installed.
This will let you pair the DualSense controller with up to four devices simultaneously. So, for example, you have it paired to your PS5, PC, and mobile device that the same time. Once the pairing process is done, you can easily swap between the currently active device with a couple of button presses. During the pairing process, you’ll hold the PS button and one of the four action buttons to assign that device to a button combination. Such as the PS button and the triangle button for PS5. Once you have all devices assigned, you just need to hit the specific button combo for the device you want to play on.
This isn’t too unlike how you switch profiles on the DualSense Edge. The main difference is that with the Edge, you’re pressing that dedicated switch button below the joystick instead of the PS button. The concept is the same, though. So it should be pretty familiar to anyone who has one of those controllers. Sony says the feature will be available to all users in the coming months. If you want to sign up for the PlayStation Beta Program, you can do so here.
