Weather apps are among the few apps that you, as a smartphone user, might glance at quite a few times in a single day, for obvious reasons. Google Pixel phone owners usually get all the weather information from the Pixel Weather app. Now, according to a report by Android Authority, Google has started rolling out AI Weather Reports in the Pixel Weather app on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a.

AI Weather Reports are gradually rolling out to Pixel 8 and 8a users

For the uninitiated, Google first introduced AI Weather Reports as part of the new Pixel Weather app on the Pixel 9 series. The news outlet spotted that multiple Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a users on Reddit have reported seeing AI Weather Reports in the Pixel Weather app.

This also means Google could soon aim for a wider rollout of the feature to devices with less memory. If you’re using a Pixel 8 or Pixel 8a, you will come across this feature if you haven’t already. However, you have to turn on Gemini Nano from within Developer Settings. Multiple reports also suggest that you’ll be prompted to update Nano when launching Pixel Weather.

If you have enabled Gemini Nano but are fine with not having AI Weather Reports, you can disable the feature. To do so, head to your saved locations, then tap on your profile icon. Now, find the toggle under the Pixel Weather settings and turn it off.

The feature is quite underwhelming

If you haven’t already seen AI Weather Reports, you can check the screenshot attached above. While Google has made a fuss about these AI-generated weather reports, many users feel that they are so basic. You’ll see a text summary of basic weather data that’s otherwise glanceable underneath. If the feature hasn’t reached you, don’t worry, you’re not missing out on something big.
