The differences between Apple’s iPhone Pro and Pro Max models are minimal at best. The biggest difference would be the display size and storage options. However, Apple plans on closing the gap between the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max.

Apple to close gap between iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max

This is according to a post on Weibo by tipster Instant Digital. Based on their claims, Apple will close some of the gap between the iPhone 17 Pro and its more expensive iPhone 17 Pro Max sibling. This will be done through storage options.

It seems that instead of starting with a base 128GB of storage, the iPhone 17 Pro could come with 256GB of base storage. For context, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro starts with 128GB of storage, while the Pro Max model starts with 256GB of storage. This means that the differences between the models would be their size and price.

However, don’t get too excited just yet. Apple isn’t giving users a free storage upgrade. The post also suggests that we could be looking at a slight price hike. The iPhone 17 Pro could end up costing $50 more than previously thought. This means that instead of being priced at $799, we could be looking at a starting price of $849.

We know it’s still a price increase, but if you think about it, it’s not that big of a jump. Especially with Trump’s tariffs, we’re kind of glad that things didn’t go up even higher.

The rest of the lineup

Apple’s 2025 iPhone lineup will consist of four models. This includes the base iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the brand new iPhone 17 Air. The iPhone 17 Air model is expected to replace the Plus model, which based on past sales data, has struggled to be as relevant as its base or Pro siblings.

The iPhone 17 Air also represents Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date. A recently leaked photo shows how much thinner the battery is compared to the Pro model. It’s quite impressive, we have to say. Some also believe that the Air model is a stepping stone towards Apple releasing its rumored foldable iPhone in 2026.

Apple is using the Air to test its newer and thinner components, possibly to help it further refine the design of the foldable iPhone. In any case, we should have more details soon. The latest reports claim that Apple will host its iPhone event on the 9th of September.
