Qualcomm will launch its next-generation Snapdragon flagship SoCs on September 23rd. Rumors claim that the San Diego-based tech giant will unveil the the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 as a toned-down version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. Now, a fresh leak claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will share the same core configuration as the premium version and could still be affordable.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip may feature custom Oryon CPU cores

Reliable leaker Digital Chat Station on Weibo says the Qualcomm SM8845, which he previously claimed to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, will be a mid-range chip, with phones priced between $280 and $350. For comparison, phones with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 could cost upwards of $900, at least.

The upcoming 8 Gen 5 could sport custom Oryon CPU cores like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2. It may share the same 3nm N3P manufacturing process. The tipster notes the “core experience will be close to flagship models.” This should help smartphone partners offer top-tier performance while not putting a dent in consumers’ pockets.

The tipster previously claimed brands will continue to sell models with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. However, the price of these will come down to around the $350 range. If this stands true, there will be competition between the two Qualcomm chips. It remains to be seen which of these rumors will pan out in the end.

If Qualcomm’s chip is not an option, Digital Chat Station says the Dimensity 9400+ and Dimensity 9500e will offer more choice to consumers. The leaker adds that the new generation of phones with these chips will feature high-end hardware.
