Xiaomi’s Next Redmi Could Pack a Monster Battery in a Slim Body

Multiple Chinese smartphone makers are attempting to fit their devices with massive batteries, all while maintaining a slim profile. A recent rumor suggested that Honor’s next-gen Power 2 smartphone could flaunt a whopping 10,000mAh battery. China’s iQOO recently also launched the Z10 Turbo+ with an 8,000mAh battery. A tipster now suggests that Xiaomi is developing a new smartphone with a huge battery.
Xiaomi has tested a new Redmi phone with a massive battery
According to the Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi has already tested a new Redmi smartphone with a huge battery featuring a size between 8,500mAh and 9,000mAh. If the news is true, it would make it one of the biggest batteries we’ve seen inside a regular smartphone.
Furthermore, the tipster claims that Xiaomi is developing such a large battery with its in-house technical solutions. The tech will not compromise on the battery’s charging cycle lifespan. Despite featuring such a huge battery, the new Redmi phone Xiaomi is testing is just 8.5mm thick around the waist. It is about the same as most Redmi series devices.
A Redmi Turbo or K series phone could house such a large power cell
While the tipster hasn’t revealed the name of the massive battery-toting Redmi phone, some speculate it could be part of the Redmi Turbo or K series. At the moment, the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro is Xiaomi’s battery champion. The company launched the phone earlier this year with a 7,550mAh battery, which supports 90W fast charging.
While many flagship smartphones still have 5,000-6,000mAh power cells, Xiaomi is putting efforts into fitting a massive battery in a mid-range offering. The device will compete with the recently launched iQOO Z10 Turbo+ and the HONOR X70, and the upcoming 10,000mAh battery-toting HONOR device.
Apart from the battery capacity, not many details about the new Redmi handset are available at the moment. But we can expect the rumor mill to share more details in the coming weeks.
