A little over a decade ago, a company called Lytro launched an interesting and somewhat experimental camera. One of its standout features was its ability to shoot a photo and then change the focus area after. Now, it looks like Samsung is bringing a similar feature to its Galaxy Enhance-X app with a couple of new features.

New features coming to the Galaxy Enhance-X app

Samsung has recently updated the Galaxy Enhance-X app with some new features. The update bumps the app up to version 15.3.06. There are a couple of new features worth talking about. One of which is the Focus Shift, and the other is Crop & Upscale.

Starting with Focus Shift, this is similar to the feature of the Lytro camera we mentioned earlier. Now, the ability for users to change the focal point of their photo after it was taken isn’t such a rarity these days. However, if you’re a Samsung user, having it available natively to your phone instead of a third-party app might be appreciated.

According to Samsung’s description, “Tap anywhere on your image to bring your subject into sharp focus – Enhance-X will intelligently blur everything else. It’s perfect for portraits, product shots, or turning everyday photos into striking visuals with depth.”

So, if for whatever reason your focus was off or you’d like to change it, you can without having to retake it.

Crop & Upscale

The other feature we mentioned is Crop & Upscale. Now, most of us might take a photo and use it as it is in its whole form. However, sometimes the best way to get the best photo is to crop. This helps remove unwanted objects in the photo or bring more attention to a part of a photo.

However, cropping has its downsides. It can reduce the overall detail because you’re essentially zooming into the photo. But with the new Crop & Upscale feature, Samsung says, “Enjoy a powerful AI-enhanced zoom experience built into the app allowing you to improve photos up to 5x the resolution.”

But do take note that the feature only works with images that have a 4MP resolution or lower. Also, upscaling is dynamic. This means that not every photo will necessarily see its resolution bumped up by five times.

The new Focus Shift and Crop & Upscale features are available running on One UI 8. This means that it covers the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, Flip 7 FE, and Galaxy S25 series.
