Verizon stirred up a controversy by discontinuing loyalty discounts. This, combined with an increase in prices of its plans, resulted in a widespread backlash. This disappointed a large portion of the carrier’s hardcore fans.

Android Authority reports that in its individual survey, over 900 users were gearing up to switch networks as these changes shot up the bill. This is a significant number, especially for a network that already lost 51,000 postpaid subscribers between April and June. However, it now looks like Verizon is in damage control mode as discounts are apparently back, but for only those who really threaten to move out.

Verizon brings back loyalty discounts as damage control

Users on Reddit are reporting that they have received loyalty discounts on their accounts. A Reddit user ‘Inner_Difficulty_381’ initiated the process of porting out of Verizon, to which the carrier offered a $10 per month per line discount. The carrier’s customer service representative said the $25 monthly loyalty discount on the customer’s account won’t go away and is for life.

Post which, the user is said to have received a notification from the ‘My Verizon’ app that said their account is eligible for a $20 per month per line discount for 12 months. However, selecting this offer “replaced the appeasement” discount as they did not stack. In the end, the customer now has a $25 per month lifetime loyalty discount and an additional $40 per month discount total for two lines for 12 months.

This effectively brings down their monthly bill significantly. All of this happened after they started the port-out procedure.

Not everyone seems to be getting loyalty discounts

Reddit users zetagrl19, NukePretendgineer, rileymilan, and Organic_Fig2303 also received the offer notification. This appeared a few hours after they initiated the port procedure and generated a transfer PIN.

Another Reddit user, KitchenLandscape, emailed Verizon’s CEO directly. Post which, they got a call from the Executive Relations department, and were given the same $20 monthly discount. Having said that, not everyone is getting the loyalty discount. Many Reddit users note that they have generated the transfer pin but haven’t received the offer. Either way, it’s worth giving a shot to see if the transfer pin can trigger the offer.

Earlier this year, the retention discount was $10 per line per month for 12 months. This now shot up to $20 per line per month.

Some are getting the Valued Customer Discount

Interestingly, Reddit user ItsDon has received a $30 monthly “Valued Customer Discount.” This replaced their $20 monthly Loyalty discount once they contacted the CEO via email. This is also a lifetime discount. Another Reddit user, Kdao18, has received $40 Valued Customer discount to replace the outgoing $25 Loyalty Discount. However, the timely loyalty discount wasn’t removed for this user.
