It has been a while since Apple gave the iPad mini some love. The last time the Cupertino company updated the tablet was back in 2024. However, according to a report from MacRumors, a refresh of the iPad mini could be on its way with an Apple A19 Pro chipset.

iPad mini to come with Apple A19 Pro

According to the report, it cites evidence found in code that Apple mistakenly shared. Within the code, there are signs that suggest Apple could be getting a new iPad mini ready with the A19 Pro chipset.

For those unfamiliar, the A19 Pro is the chipset rumored to power the new iPhone 17 Air, Pro, and Pro Max models. The base iPhone 17 is rumored to use the regular A19. This means that the upcoming iPad mini could be nearly as powerful as the iPhone. However, note that we say “nearly.” According to the rumors, there is a binned A19 Pro with one fewer GPU core.

This model is said to be used in the iPhone 17 Air, maybe to prevent it from getting too hot. We’re not sure if this binned model could be used in the iPad mini refresh, or if it will get the “regular” A19 Pro. Also, for a bit more context, the last iPad mini refresh saw the tablet launch with the A17 Pro.

Given that it launched around the same time as the iPhone 16 series, it was a little disappointing that Apple didn’t give it the latest chipset. Now, with this rumored refresh, Apple could skip one chipset generation. This is good news for fans of the iPad mini form factor.

When is it coming?

At the moment, there’s no word on when the tablet will launch. Apple typically doesn’t announce new iPads with its iPhones. This means that Apple could either hold a separate event or just announce it through a press release.

Also, since the current iPad mini launched in October 2024, there’s a good chance the new version could launch in October 2025. It could also debut alongside other product refreshes. This includes the larger iPad Pro, iPad, or iPad Air, and maybe some new MacBook laptops. Alternatively, an earlier report suggested an 2026 launch.
