Ever since Google introduced its new Material 3 Expressive Design language, the company has been steadily rolling out the changes across its apps and services. Now, it looks like Chrome for Android is getting some changes. According to a post on X by @Leopeva64, Google is rolling out a Chrome Android settings redesign that aligns the browser with the Material 3 look found in other apps.

Chrome Android settings redesign

From what we can tell based on the screenshots, the updated interface organizes options into clearly defined containers. Settings are now grouped under categories like You and Google, Basics, Passwords and Autofill, Advanced, and Privacy and Security. Each section is visually separated. This helps create clearer boundaries and makes it easier to find specific options at a glance.

Within these containers, individual settings are divided by subtle lines. This gives the layout a bit more structure. The font appears to be slightly smaller than before, but overall, the design is still very readable. The same style extends into sub-menus. One thing to note is that compared to Android’s Settings app, Chrome does not display arrows to indicate when a setting leads to another page.

Material 3 Expressive design in Google apps

Like we said, over the past year, Google has been introducing its Material 3 Expressive design across many of its apps. This includes apps like Files by Google, Google Photos, the Google Phone app, Pixel Camera, and Google Contacts.

Bringing Chrome in line with this design approach reinforces the sense of a more unified Android experience. Right now, the changes are being tested in the Chrome Canary build for Android. This suggests a stable rollout could happen later or early next month.

These changes aren’t exactly an overhaul. However, the upside is that you won’t have to relearn how to use Chrome. But if you like the changes Google has introduced with its Material 3 Expressive Design, then this is an update you’ll want to look out for.
