Android users can now edit text messages sent to iPhones. Some of you probably assumed that there’s a catch, though, as this is Apple we’re talking about. Of course, there is, as the feature doesn’t work as it should.
Android users can now edit text messages sent to iPhones… kind of
While the new Universal Profile 3.0 specification made it possible to edit such messages, it doesn’t work like it should. Edited messages actually appear as new messages on iPhones. Also, iPhones can’t edit messages sent to Android devices.
This could change down the line, of course, just don’t hold your breath. It may not be a perfect way to use the feature, but at least it’s there… well, at least for Android users, that is.
Speaking of editing, you have a 15-minute window to do so, after you send a message. If you don’t, the edit message option will no longer be available in Google Messages.
RCS did improve the messaging situation between Android smartphones and iPhones. Some features were missing from the get-go, such as this message editing one, but the companies are gradually adding them.
This feature is not yet available to everyone, but you can check real quick
Do note that the message editing feature may not yet be available to everyone. My colleague and I still don’t see it, but apparently, someone at Android Authority does. As you can see below.

How do you edit a message? Well, after you send it, try to long-press it and see if a pencil icon is there (like shown above). If it is, in a message you sent to an iPhone, you’re good to go. IF not, you’ll need to be patient.
Let’s hope this will further improve down the line. As a reminder, a cross-platform end-to-end encryption is also coming.
