Google Pixel 6a has been a point of discussion in the tech community for its ongoing battery concerns. The manufacturer even released an update to somewhat bring the situation under control. But despite that, the concerns are on the rise. A user’s Pixel 6a recently caught on fire while charging, and it may be a sign that a battery replacement is a must for the device.

A Reddit user has reported a concerning incident about their Pixel 6a device. The smartphone reportedly caught fire while the user was asleep. He mentions that the device was kept nearly 40cm from his head and was plugged in for charging.

The device suddenly caught fire, and hence, the user woke up to a disturbing fire scene and a loud noise. The bedsheet also caught fire, and some additional damage occurred to the floor. The user, however, seems thankfully safe. As per the shared photos, the device seems to be inside a case when the incident took place. The screen and other components of the device can be seen melted because of the heat.

Pixel 6a users—get your battery or even device replaced as early as possible

The user adds that the device was running on the latest Android 16 update. For reference, Google has added some software tweaks in the latest Android 16 update for the Pixel 6a to control its heating. The update comes with a new battery management feature that intelligently reduces charging speeds and battery capacity for users with over 400 charging cycles.

This case isn’t isolated, and there are several incidents where users have reported overheating and battery concerns with the device. If you have a Pixel 6a, replace its battery ASAP. It’s even better to replace the device completely for now.
