2026 is going to be an exciting year for Apple. According to the rumors, Apple will finally dip its toes in the foldable scene. Now, according to reports out of Korea, Apple has apparently kicked off display production for its foldable iPhone ahead of its launch in 2026.
Foldable iPhone display production has begun
According to the report, Apple has started the display production on its foldable iPhone. The displays will be made by none other than Apple’s chief rival in the smartphone and foldable space, Samsung. This isn’t surprising. Samsung Display is one of the biggest OLED display manufacturers in the world.
The company makes displays for a variety of products, such as TVs, monitors, phones, tablets, and so on. So, it makes sense that Apple would turn to Samsung for its display needs. Apple typically prefers to diversify its supply chain. This is because if anything happens with one supplier, they have a backup.
However, in this case, reports have suggested that Samsung Display will be the sole supplier of foldable displays for the next few years. We can’t say we’re shocked. Samsung has had years of experience making foldable phones, so why would Apple look elsewhere?
What do we know about Apple’s foldable so far?
Apple has stuck with the same smartphone formula for almost two decades, and it has served them well. There were whispers that Apple might hop on board the foldable bandwagon following the launch of Samsung’s first foldable phone. However, the company took its time perfecting it.
One of the issues surrounding the earlier foldables was their durability, namely the hinge and display. This is one of the reasons Apple took its time, to learn from the mistakes of its competitors.
So, based on the rumors, the foldable iPhone is said to feature a display with a 14.1:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2713 x 1920 pixels. The display is also rumored to measure 7.58 inches when opened. Interestingly enough, Apple is only equipping the phone with dual 48MP cameras instead of three.
The company is also allegedly using a “metallic glass” hinge, or liquid metal. This is supposed to result in a hinge that’s more durable. Seeing as how the hinge is a key component in a foldable phone, it makes sense that Apple is paying attention to that component.
Finally, as for price, the foldable iPhone is rumored to cost around $2,000. It’s time to start getting your wallets ready, Apple fans.
