If you’re waiting for the launch of the Apple M5 MacBook Pro, you might have to wait a little longer than expected. This is because, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, Apple is only planning to release the M5 MacBook Pro in the early part of 2026. However, even then, it might be a hard sell.

Apple M5 MacBook Pro launch in 2026

Apple released its M4 MacBook Pro towards the end of 2024. This would suggest that Apple will refresh the laptop by the end of this year. However, Gurman claims that Apple might only launch the M5 MacBook Pro in early 2026. So, users looking to upgrade will have to wait a few more months.

But even then, customers might not necessarily want to upgrade. This is because Gurman believes that Apple could follow up with an OLED M6-powered MacBook Pro by the end of 2026. This means that, given the slightly “delayed” launch of the M5 laptop, customers have less incentive to buy if the OLED model is coming out later in the same year.

However, it is possible that the OLED model could be more expensive, which means that the M5 version could still be a viable purchase if customers don’t see the need for an OLED display. Obviously, an OLED display would be nicer. OLED screens typically offer more vibrant colors and deeper blacks. It is generally more battery-friendly, making it perfect for media consumption, especially on laptops.

Either way, we’ll have to wait and see. But in the meantime, if you need a laptop now, the M4 is still a great buy. The jump in performance across Apple Silicon generations hasn’t been that huge. Unless you need the absolute best of the best, you could always opt for an older model to save money.

OLED MacBook

We’ve been hearing rumors that Apple is working on an OLED MacBook. The company has been slowly shifting more of its products to OLED. This started with the Apple Watch before moving to the iPad Pro and the iPhone. So, it makes perfect sense for Apple to transition its laptops too.

There’s aren’t that many OLED laptops in the market today. So, Apple giving its MacBook an OLED upgrade could get more users to hop on board the macOS bandwagon.
