Apple to relocate iPhone 17 Pro’s antenna bands to the camera bump

It has been a long time – nearly half a decade – since we saw any major change in the iPhone’s design language. However, that seems to be changing with the upcoming iPhone 17 series. The devices will follow a new, refreshed design pattern. It is now reported that Apple is going to relocate the antenna bands for the first time with the iPhone 17 Pro.
Apple iPhone 17 Pro’s antenna bands will be positioned in the camera bump
Almost all the modern-day devices that have a metal frame come with antenna bands wrapped around the middle frame. iPhone follows a similar pattern. It is not only a tried and tested location but also cuts the R&D costs. This is because the brands do not have to research for the new position.
iPhone 17 Pro series is touted to come with a new design language. The camera bump is now large and rectangular. It covers almost 25% of the space of the rear panel. Camera lens arrangement remains the same, but the position of the microphone, LED, and LiDAR seems to have changed. And now, a leak tipster claims that the antenna bands’ position has been shifted as well.
The new position could improve cellular and Wi-Fi network performance
The source Majin Bu reports that Apple has shifted the position of the antenna bands from the chassis to the camera bump. Because of the new position, the bands will now be covered with a case and not with a user’s hand. This switch also enables to company to make use of the large space left in the camera bump.
How this change will reflect in real-life usage is yet to be seen. But the theories suggest that the new position could boost the cellular and Wi-Fi network performance of the device. With the iPhone 17 series launch just around the corner, the expectation is running high.
