Apple hasn’t really done much in the smart home space. The company has attempted smart speakers with its HomePod series, but beyond that, not much else. However, that could change in 2027 as Apple could launch an AI robot for the home.

Apple to launch AI robot in 2027

According to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is getting ready to launch a tabletop AI robot companion in 2027. This is actually not the first time we’re hearing about this. In 2024, there were reports that Apple is looking to get into the personal robotics space. There have even been rumors that Apple could launch a HomePod with a display.

The report describes this new product as an iPad on a movable robotic arm. The robotic arm allows it to swivel around to ensure the display is always facing the user. If anything, it sounds like an Amazon Echo Show on steroids. However, the question is, how smart will it be?

We all know that Apple’s AI efforts have been subpar, and that’s already giving them too much credit. Siri is also absolutely useless compared to its competitors. So, unless Siri’s revamp, which is rumored for 2026, blows us away, we’re not feeling too confident about this new product.

Other robotic products

In addition to this rumored tabletop robot companion, Apple has other robotic projects in the works. One of which is a smart home hub. The report claims this is actually a simpler version of the tabletop robot, except it does not come with a moving stand. It will allow users to video conference, control music playback, take notes, browse the web, and more.

Apple could ease customers into its robotic plans by launching this product first. Gurman claims this could debut as early as 2026.

So far, most tech companies are focusing their efforts on wearables like smart glasses and AI. Apple is also rumored to be doing that with new headsets, but its approach to robotics could allow the company to compete in a less competitive space. Whether it works out for them remains to be seen.
