Apple’s Foldable iPhone Might Be “Cheaper” Than You Think (But Still Pricey)

Samsung announced its latest foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it does not come cheap. If Samsung dares to charge $2,000 for its foldable, we dread to think how much Apple will charge for it. However, a new report suggests that the upcoming foldable iPhone could be cheaper than we thought.
Apple’s foldable iPhone might be cheaper
Investment firm UBS recently released a note to its investors about Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone. In its note, the company says that the foldable iPhone could be cheaper than what the rumors are saying.
The report claims that Apple’s Bill of Materials (the cost to build the actual phone) will be around $759. This is slightly lower than what Samsung paid for the Galaxy Z Fold FE ($790). However, take note that we’re not sure how accurate these figures are. Companies like Apple and Samsung have deals in place with their suppliers, so the actual cost could be lower due to discounts for bulk orders. Or in Apple’s case, reputation and guaranteed volume.
As for the actual price of the foldable iPhone, UBS estimates it could cost between $1,800 to $2,000. This is compared to earlier rumors, which suggested a minimum price of $2,000 and it could go up to $2,400. That being said, even though Apple could launch the foldable iPhone at a starting price of $1,800, it is by no means cheap or affordable.
It is slightly cheaper than some of the competition, but it definitely is still priced way above what most people are willing to pay.
A long-term Apple project
Apple has reportedly been working on its foldable iPhone for quite a while now. When Samsung launched its first foldable, we had to admit that it seemed like a novelty. However, the form factor surprisingly caught on, and now many other handset makers have followed in Samsung’s footsteps.
It was assumed that Apple might sit this one out, but now the rumors claim Apple will launch its foldable iPhone in 2026. Apple has been slowly learning from the mistakes of its competitors. The company has worked to address some of the structurally weak points of foldables, such as the hinge.
Apple is also working to make the phone as slim as possible. It is also one of the reasons the company is launching the iPhone 17 Air this year. The phone is rumored to act as a testbed for its upcoming foldable.
