In 2026, Apple is reportedly planning to launch its first-ever foldable iPhone. In fact, the display production of the device has kicked off. However, you might have also heard that Apple was planning to introduce a large foldable device, but unfortunately, that has been delayed.

Apple large foldable iPad has been delayed

According to a MacRumors report, it cites a research note by GF Securities’ lead analyst, Jeff Pu. Based on the note, Apple was expected to mass-produce both its foldable iPhone and large foldable device, but the latter has been delayed. However, Pu does not mention why he thinks the device could be postponed.

It is possible that Apple might not want to launch two foldable devices at the same time. Given that the foldable iPhone won’t come cheap, the company might want to wait and see how the public reacts before starting mass production on the larger device. It is unclear what kind of device we could be looking at.

Some rumors believe that it could be some kind of MacBook/iPad hybrid. This was echoed by another analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who has referred to this device as a MacBook. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see.

Upcoming foldables

There have been multiple rumors about Apple’s foldable plans. One of them is from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has an excellent track record. According to Gurman, he believes Apple is working on a 20-inch foldable iPad that could come out in 2028. Another report from analyst Ross Young suggests that a foldable iPad could launch in either 2026 or 2027.

Apple is kind of late to the foldables game. However, we can’t say we blame them. When Samsung launched its first foldable, we’re sure we weren’t alone in thinking the form factor was a gimmick. The fragility and high price tag made it an expensive proposition. However, fast forward 6 years later, and Samsung is proving the naysayers wrong.

It will be interesting to see if Apple will achieve the same level of success as Samsung. The company’s rumored foldable iPhone is expected to cost around $2,000, making it a very expensive product. However, Apple does have the branding, reputation, and loyal fanbase, so that could play a role it the device’s success.
