AT&T Starts Offering $240 Loyalty Discount to some Users — Here’s Who’s Eligible

A slew of network carriers in the US are reacting to news of the backlash generated by Verizon’s recent move. Verizon reportedly irked its subscriber base by removing loyalty discounts and some perks. One of those carriers, AT&T, responded to the news by introducing an AT&T loyalty discount. In contrast to Verizon’s cancellation, this loyalty discount seeks to reassure and retain subscribers. It is a $20 monthly credit, totaling $240 a year, for selected Fiber broadband customers.

How did we get here?

We are here because Verizon decided to cancel the discounts and perks of subscribers who then began leaving the network entirely.

This could potentially create a new market for the likes of T-Mobile and AT&T. Interestingly, Verizon quickly retraced its steps by reinstating those cancelled discounts and offering new ones, in an effort to stem subscriber bleeding. But who knows how many subscribers they’ve lost already and can win back?

This fiasco, that should never have happened in the first place, is all the more to the benefit of the consumer. The likes of AT&T and T-Mobile have quickly come to the market to state their stance. They obviously do not want their own subscribers to think anything otherwise about where their loyalty stands. It has also not been confirmed that these new offers from AT&T and T-Mobile are directly targeting disgruntled Verizon subscribers who left. We do get an inkling from a poll conducted by Android Authority when news of the discount cancellation first broke. Over 900 subscribers indicated that they will switch. So, who knows?

What AT&T loyalty discount is on offer

AT&T is offering randomly selected existing or new customers a $20 monthly AT&T loyalty discount. This totals $240 for the year. This is available only to Fiber broadband customers irrespective of how long they have been on their current plan.

Who is eligible to benefit from the AT&T loyalty discount

One thing is confirmed, that network providers in the US are preemptively working to hold on to their subscribers. And all of this is stemming from that backlash to Verizon’s move. It is tempting to look at this as an attempt to scoop up those disgruntled Verizon’s subscribers. But then, who is eligible to benefit from the AT&T loyalty discount?

Well, recipients of the AT&T loyalty discount offers have been their own existing and new subscribers. They are not directly scooping up subscribers from Verizon, it appears. Also, the offers so far reported have been varied. For instance, a few Reddit users like this one via Android Authority, report receiving an email offer from AT&T. The recipient shared a screenshot of the email they received detailing what is on offer as you can see in the image below.

While this is particular to this user, others on Reddit are reporting varying offers. The offers are random, not targeted. And AT&T knows who and what they are offering to anyone, old or new subscriber. If you’re an AT&T Fiber broadband user, it might be worth checking your email or account notifications.
