There have been rumors suggesting that Samsung could employ an interesting chipset strategy for its Galaxy S26 series of flagship phones. Instead of going with Exynos for some regions and Snapdragon for other regions, Samsung might use Exynos for the base Galaxy S26 and Snapdragon for the rest. Now, new details about the Exynos 2600 have surfaced, suggesting Samsung could improve it with better heat management.

Exynos 2600 will have better heat management

According to a report from ZDNet Korea, Samsung is doing some research into applying a Heat Pass Block (HPB) for the chipset. This will supposedly help with heat management in the Exynos 2600.

Right now, Samsung’s existing Exynos chipsets have a package-on-package design. This places the DRAM on top of the chipset. However, with the application of the HPB, it will be placed on top of the chipset alongside the DRAM. It is a copper-based heatsink, which will help absorb the heat generated by the chip.

Nothing is set in stone right now. Samsung plans to conduct a quality test by October. If successful, the company could implement it in the manufacturing of the chipset.

Redeeming the Exynos brand

Samsung has gotten a lot of flak over the years for its Exynos chipsets. These are capable chipsets. However, when compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series, they fall a bit short. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue. After all, some phones use Qualcomm chipsets, others use MediaTek, so differences are to be expected.

The problem is Samsung’s dual chipset strategy. Imagine paying full price for a Samsung flagship phone, the same price the rest of the world is paying. However, instead of the top-of-the-line performance some markets are getting, you’re getting a slightly watered-down version because your region uses the Exynos chipset.

That being said, maybe users won’t have to worry so much about the Exynos 2600. According to benchmarks, the Exynos 2600 is proving to be quite a beast. The leaks are suggesting it could feature a 10-core configuration. It could also ditch the efficiency cores in favor of going full performance.

In any case, the Galaxy S26 series is only expected in 2026. So, we still have a bit of waiting left to do. Until then, take this with a grain of salt.
