Google Calendar for Wear OS is now getting a Material 3 Expressive redesign. This change is now widely available, letting users get a taste of the new bold makeover. However, the changes are limited to Calendar’s Tiles, as there are no major changes to the actual app. This is if we have to compare it to the big Maps update from Google.
Google Calendar app on Wear OS gets Material 3 Expressive redesign
The “Next” event now has name and duration details in a rounded container. It also shows themed graphics. The date in the “Today” Tile is just above, while the “Calendar” button is at the bottom in a curved-style container. There’s only a minor change to the “Next” tasks, which is a curved “More” button. The change is available in the latest Google Calendar for Wear OS version 2025.30.x.

The Pixel Watch companion app apparently reveals two upcoming Tile updates. The Google Contacts “Favorites” Tile will switch from circles to pills. There’s also a “See all” button at the bottom. It’s unclear what the max number of contact shortcuts within this Tile, as the design isn’t live yet. The “Contact” widget gets a large avatar with call and messaging shortcuts to the right. This is a shift from a circle flanked by vertical pills.

Google Keep’s new “Create note” tile has changed from a list to an oval for Note and a rectangle for List. There’s a “Browse” option at the bottom. Meanwhile, the “Single note” Tile has the text in a container.
Material 3 Expressive expanding
Material 3 Expressive has been reaching more and more apps lately. Recently, the Google Messages app for Wearables received the bold new Material 3 Expressive design, including tinted message bubbles and color-filled buttons. Some of the buttons, including those for options in a list, have a dynamic shape to better indicate a “scrollable nature.” However, only a select few users have been able to experience it so far, hinting at a server-side rollout.
