Google Home App Finally Supports Temperature Scheduling for Older Nest Thermostats
August 15, 2025 | by Admin

Back in April, Google announced that it would finally bring temperature scheduling support for popular Gen 3 and E Nest models in the Home app. This is around the same time that the Mountain View giant ended support for several older Nest Thermostats. This can be a move to push more users towards the latest 4th-gen model. It now looks like Google Home temperature scheduling in the Home app is finally here, as per Android Authority.
Nest temperature scheduling in the Home app appears to be going live
The Nest app has been the hub for controlling all Nest thermostats. That changed with the launch of the 2020 model, when the Google Home app became the primary hub. While the Gen 3 and E thermostats could also be moved to the Home app, the temperature scheduling was missing. This forced users into keeping the Nest app, specifically for this smart home function.
In April, Google promised to address this by bringing temperature scheduling for older Nest models to the Home app. The timeline mentioned was “later this year,” which is pretty vague. Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait that long. Android Authority reports that the new scheduling page is live for the Gen 3 Nest Thermostat in the Google Home app.
The scheduling functionality in the Home app appears glitchy
The screenshots above show that the Google Home app now lets you set specific temperatures for different times of the day. It also lets you choose which sensors to use for temperature readings throughout the day. You can also configure a minimum runtime for the fan each hour. The main page offers a view of the day’s schedule.
The report notes that the scheduling functionality is a bit glitchy in the Home app. Apparently, the schedules created in the Nest app didn’t carry over. Reportedly, after adding a new temperature in the Home app, the old Nest schedule briefly appeared and then disappeared. The new temperature has also disappeared. However, the report notes that these issues fixed by simply clearing the Home app’s cache and relaunching it. This should bring back the old schedule in the Home app.
