If you think Google Photos needed a design upgrade, that’s about to change—at least for iOS users, for now. The tech giant redesigned and improved the Google Photos app to simplify the photo view and provide a more modern user interface.
Google has improved the Photos app with some handy updates
Google announced new improvements to Google Photos in a blog post. Accordingly, Google has made many changes to the app’s user interface. The most notable of these is definitely the new light mode. Thanks to this, the photo view background will automatically match the system theme of your device.

Here’s Google’s statement on the latest Google Photos updates;
”Brand-new light mode for your photos. We’ll automatically match your device’s light or dark mode preferences. Glanceable date, time, and location details right at the top of your photos, making it easier to pinpoint when and where a photo was captured. Streamlined actions menu for improved usability and navigation. You’ll notice many key actions have been consolidated into the three-dot menu.”
Another useful update is that photos now show details at the top, including the date, time, and location where you took them. This makes it easier for you to access detailed information about your photos.
Google Photos has also made some changes to the menus to make it easier for users to access the features. The three-dot menu at the top right now includes these: “About, Google Lens, Create, Cast, Save as, Download or Delete from device” respectively.
As you may remember, Google Lens was previously located on the taskbar. After the company moved Google Lens to the three-dot menu, it replaced it with the “Add to” function.
Additionally, pill-shaped badges have arrived, which you can use to change the category of a photo, play or pause a Live or Motion photo, and save a shared photo to your library.
The app now features a three-dot menu next to the selected thumbnail for photo stacks and bursts. This allows you to change the top pick, remove a photo from the stack, or use multiselect to perform bulk actions.
These updates are currently available on iOS
Google stated in its announcement that the updates for Google Photos are currently available for iOS. It said that it will be available for Android very soon.
The brand has not given a clear release date for Android. We can say that work for the other side is not yet fully complete. It seems that Android users have no choice but to wait a little longer.
