One of the new features Apple introduced in iOS 17 comes in the form of Contact Posters. This creates a more stylized profile that shows up when you call someone on another iPhone. Now, it looks like Google is bringing something similar to Android in the form of calling cards.
Google calling cards rolling out
In a report from Android Authority, it looks like the new Google calling cards feature is rolling out as we speak. The feature was spotted in the Google Contacts app a while back, but the report claims that users can now make use of it.
However, before Apple users rush out and claim it’s a copy of Contact Posters, there are some differences. For starters, in Apple’s Contact Posters, users can only customize their own photo and profile. This is the version that other people will see when you call them. However, with Google calling cards, it’s the opposite.
You get to customize the calling cards of other people, but you can’t customize your own. This means that how you appear when you call someone won’t be up to you. The report also claims that the feature is live in the latest version of Google Contacts app (version 4.61.28.792249534).
So, if you haven’t updated your app yet, go ahead and do so and you should be able to take advantage of it.
What’s the difference?
Attaching photos to your contacts isn’t a new feature. It has been around for a while. However, the difference between the feature and calling cards is that you have more customization options. You can change the font style and color, making it more personalized, especially if it’s a family member or loved one.
Users also have the option to use the new calling card as the profile photo of the person. It will then be synced to your Google account, so the changes you make will be account-wide on your devices.
If you don’t see it yet, don’t worry. We imagine that Google is rolling out in stages, so it should eventually make its way to you.
