OpenAI is expected to release GPT-5 soon. Last we heard, it could launch as soon as this month. But it looks like over at GitHub, the GPT-5 announcement post went live a little early than expected. The page has been taken down, but assuming the post is accurate, we have more details on what to expect from OpenAI’s new GPT-5 model.

GPT-5 gets early announcement on GitHub

The announcement of GPT-5 went live early on GitHub. According to the post, “GPT-5 is OpenAI’s most advanced model, offering major improvements in reasoning, code quality, and user experience. It handles complex coding tasks with minimal prompting, provides clear explanations, and introduces enhanced agentic capabilities, making it a powerful coding collaborator and intelligent assistant for all users.”

The post also revealed that GPT-5 will have four different models to choose from. Each model has its own set of capabilities, so depending on what you need, you can choose the one that suits you best.

This includes the base model. The company says it’s designed for logic and multi-step tasks. Then, there’s a mini model. This is a lightweight version for cost-sensitive applications. Then, there’s nano, optimized for speed and ideal, perfect for applications that need low latency. Last but not least, there’s a chat version of the model. According to OpenAI, this model is for “advanced, natural, multimodal, and context-aware conversations for enterprise applications.”

The next-gen AI model

Many ChatGPT users have been eagerly anticipating the release of OpenAI’s next-gen AI model. This is because of the supposed advancements the company has made to the model. In fact, during a recent podcast, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman talked up the new model’s capabilities.

He also expressed how it “scared” him how fast the new model is. He also likened it to the Manhattan Project. GPT-5 could be released as soon as today. The OpenAI X account posted an announcement for a livestream later today at 10AM PT. It did not mention it explicitly, but there’s a good chance it could be about it.

Either way, we’ll have more information once the announcement is live. So, be sure to check back with us later if you’d like to learn more about the new GPT-5 model.
