Meze Audio 105 SILVA blends warm analog soul with modern open-back precision

Meze Audio has announced the 105 SILVA, a new open-back dynamic headphone set to launch this month. The Romanian audio brand is known for its build quality and a natural sound profile. From what we can see, at least based on the design, the company has definitely achieved that. 

Meet the Meze Audio 105 SILVA

The Meze Audio 105 SILVA focuses on clear mids and a smooth, balanced sound. It brings vocals and strings to the front without losing detail or energy. Meze says the sound sits between the 109 PRO and the 105 AER. It keeps the clarity of the 109 PRO and adds the warmth and flexibility of the 105 AER.

The 105 SILVA features a 50mm dynamic driver with a cellulose composite dome and titanium-coated surround. There is additional support from a semicrystalline polymer torus and a copper-zinc stabilizer, which help keep the diaphragm rigid and reduce distortion. This contributes to fast transients and clean bass response.

Since this is an open-back headphone, the rear of the earcup is ventilated. This allows sound to interact more naturally with the environment. This often results in a wider soundstage compared to closed-back headphones. However, there is a downside. Open-back headphones typically result in sound leakage and less isolation in noisy settings. If you plan to use this mostly at home, then it won’t really be a problem.

When it comes to design, the 105 SILVA draws inspiration from Mid-Century Modern style. Its earcups combine a radial grille with walnut wood, giving the headphones a clean and timeless look. At the same time, they still feel modern. For comfort, Meze includes a self-adjusting headband and soft ear cushions that make long sessions easier. Just like the brand’s other models, the 105 SILVA is fully modular. This means you can replace every part, which helps the headphones last longer and stay in good shape over time.
