Google wants Android and iOS users to get the best out of its AI assistant. That’s the main reason the company has quite consistently updated the Gemini app on both mobile platforms over the past few months. Now, Google has updated the Gemini app’s Audio Overviews feature by adding a native, inline player, both on Android and iOS.

Audio Overviews in the Gemini app get a native player on Android & iOS

If you’ve previously used Audio Overviews, you must be aware of how it worked until now. You generally see the Audio Overviews opening the file on a new tab, with a long URL, in the Chrome browser. The Audio Overviews were then available to download or listen to in that tab. However, that’s changed, according to a new report by 9to5Google

The latest update to Audio Overviews in the Gemini app now uses a native player. That’s the same as the one you’d see when you open Audio Overviews on the Gemini’s desktop website. Now, you must be wondering what’s new, right?

Well, the native player for Audio Overviews in the Gemini app includes the name of the podcast. You’ll also see a badge on that player, which reads, “Gemini Audio Overview.” Of course, it includes a timeline and scrubber, with options to rewind and skip 10 seconds as well as the play/pause button. If you want to alter the playback speed, on the left, there are multiple options, including .5x, .75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, and 2x.

You get the download option right in the native player

Previously, you could download the generated Audio Overviews from the opened tab. But with the native player, the download button is right there. If you play the Audio Overview now, you’ll also see the system media player notification badged with the Gemini icon. There’s also an option to quickly rewind/skip and play/pause the Audio Overviews. Google has rolled out the new native Audio Overviews player with stable version 16.27 of the Google app on Android. Whereas, on iPhone, it will be available via today’s iOS update.
