OnePlus Eyes Handheld Market with New Compact Gaming Tablet

These days, handheld gaming devices are becoming more popular than ever. We know that back in the day, consoles like the Nintendo DS, PSP, and PS Vita were popular, but eventually, smartphones replaced them. However, there seems to be a revival in the product category. Now, it looks like OnePlus wants to enter the market with its own compact gaming tablet.

OnePlus is working on a compact gaming tablet

According to tipster Smart Pikachu on Weibo, they claim that OnePlus is working on its own compact gaming tablet. The device is rumored to be powered by a Qualcomm chipset. It is speculated that the chipset in question is the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. The chipset hasn’t been announced yet, but Qualcomm is expected to do so in the coming months.

The post also claims that the tablet will feature an 8-inch display, a 3K resolution, and a 165Hz refresh rate. We have to say, an 8-inch display would be nice. These days, companies are going overboard with screen sizes. We’re looking at phones with displays close to 7 inches. Back in the day, that would be the size of a tablet like the Nexus 7!

Also, tablet display sizes are also going up. So, it’s nice to see a tablet that doesn’t make you look like you’re holding a monitor to your face.

That being said, the latest OnePlus Pad 3 already features pretty high-end specs. We’re talking about a 13.2-inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and a massive 12,140mAh battery. We’re not sure what would make this particular device gamer-worthy. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see. OnePlus has not commented or confirmed anything yet.

Gaming tablets on the rise

If this report is true, OnePlus will have to face off against other companies making similar devices. For starters, there’s the Steam Deck. Granted, it’s not an Android-powered device, but it does offer PC gaming on the go.

For devices that are more similar, we have devices from RedMagic, ASUS, and Lenovo. OnePlus definitely needs to come up with a differentiating factor if they want to stay ahead of the competition.
