It has been nearly eight years since Pebble, a known wearable manufacturer, exited the industry. However, since the start of this year, the company’s founder and ex-CEO has kept hyping about the comeback of the brand. And now, the Pebble Watch 2, one of the initial models set to mark the comeback, is confirmed to get a metal design and up to 30 days of battery life.
Pebble smartwatches are making a comeback
Back in January this year, Pebble’s founder and ex-CEO Eric Migicovsky announced that the brand is all set for a comeback. He later revealed prototypes of two of the upcoming smartwatches, the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2. While he didn’t say much about their specifications, he confirmed that the watches will offer up to 30 days of battery life and will run on PebbleOS.
Core Devices, a parent company of Pebble, has now successfully reclaimed the trademark of “Pebble.” And yes, this was the reason why he referred to the Pebble watches are “Core” watches in his reveal. Now in his third episode of the podcast, the official has revealed some more details about the upcoming Time 2 watch.
The watch he initially addressed as Core Time 2 might land as Pebble Time 2 in the market. This watch, in particular, is inspired by the Pebble Time Steel. And therefore, it offers a chassis made completely of aluminium. It will be available in silver and black color variants. The square dial on the front will have a matte finish to give it a premium look.
Strap size is going to be the basic 22mm, which means it will be compatible with most third-party straps. As for the display, it gets a 1.5-inch e-paper display with support for up to 64 different colors. It will be able to switch between various color temperatures, all thanks to its multi colored LED backlight. As the watch is still in the early development phase, many aspects remain unfinalized, and even finalized features may change before its official release.
The Pebble 2 Duo was originally meant to go on shipping starting at the end of this month. But it looks like there may be some delay in the actual schedule.
