Wireless charging tech has come a long way. It has been in existence for more than a decade now. Almost all the major flagship devices support wireless charging. To offer a more streamlined experience, Qi2 tech with 25W charging support has been introduced now. And the good news is that several Android devices, including the upcoming Google Pixel 10, are getting it.

Qi2 with 25W Charging Support is Here

The Wireless Power Consortium has announced the next iteration of the Qi wireless charging protocol. The successor of Qi 2.2.1 is now unveiled. Tagged with the name “Qi2,” it is set to upgrade the charging wattage speed from 15W to 25W.

The Wireless Power Consortium adds in the release that “According to WPC market research, the most popular feature requested by consumers to improve wireless charging satisfaction is faster rapid charging. When Qi2 was released in November 2023 with 15 watts of charging capability, it marked a significant step toward meeting consumer demand for quicker charging.”

Pixel 10 and Several Android Devices will support it

While the announcement was made, it was added that “Several OEMs use their proprietary charging tech. But Qi protocol enables any brand to use and take advantage of the faster charging speeds.”

WPC further adds that Google did help in the development of the new Qi2 charging standard. It later adds to the statement that “Numerous Android manufacturers, in addition to the iPhones, will carry the support of newer and faster Qi2 tech.”

Now, though no particular model or brand name was directly mentioned in the statement. It makes it kind of clear that the Pixel 10 device will carry the support of Qi2 wireless charging tech. Leaks also reveal that the device is set to get new magnetic changing accessories, and it will probably be termed as “Pixelsnap”.
