Razer has been in the gaming peripheral game long enough to warrant the kind of cult-like following it currently holds, and releases like its newly launched Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC wireless controller are a big part of that loyalty. This is, of course, not Razer’s first game controller. Not even close. The company has released numerous controllers over the years for a variety of platforms. This includes controllers for PC and Xbox, as well as controllers for PS5. Even mobile. In fact, the Kishi line is a personal favorite. In fact, the first version of the V3 Pro came out last Summer, releasing in a new White color earlier this year.

However, while this is far from Razer’s first controller, it doesn’t really make anything else like it. Not entirely. The Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC pulls bits and pieces from various controller models to make one super-powered PC controller for the competitive player. It’s designed to give you a competitive edge, and it certainly delivers. In other words, it holds up its end of the bargain. That bargain being that you spend $199.99, and you get a controller with several advanced features. Of course, those advanced features won’t immediately make you a superstar in every game you play. The Wolverine V3 Pro 8K PC gives you the tools. It’s up to you to learn to use them properly.

What’s really interesting about the latest iteration of Razer’s Wolverine controller is not how many features it has. Those are interesting details, but not the most interesting thing. It’s that Razer was able to shed so much weight off this controller while keeping it packed with features.

This controller is a staggeringly light 220g. That’s less than half a pound. Usually, when controllers are this light, they feel cheap. That isn’t the case here. It feels ultra-premium, yet almost like it’s floating in your hands. The secret to Razer’s sauce with this was removing the Chroma RGB and the haptics modules. You won’t find any of that in this new Wolverine V3 Pro controller. While that might bum some players out, the trade-off is immense. It’s much more comfortable to hold and play games for longer periods of time. And that increased comfort can certainly translate to improved gameplay. Of course, no haptic motors and no Chroma RGB lighting also means longer battery life. So you can also play for longer because the controller won’t die on you as fast.

Beyond the lightweight design, Razer shoved a bunch of cool tech into this thing. Mouse click-style triggers are just the tip of the iceberg, although they are one of the more important features. Razer is also using TMR (Tunnel magnetoresistance) thumbsticks. Basically, you won’t have to really worry about thumbstick drift. Of course, there’s the 8K hyperpolling as well. This will really amp up the controller’s response time for inputs, but it does drain the battery faster. So, keep that in mind. Additionally, the controller features two extra remappable buttons on top and four on the back. Not only that, but Razer repositioned the four back buttons to be in a more comfortable spot. Naturally, the entire controller can be customized and configured in Razer Synapse 4. The controller is available now through both Amazon and Razer directly.
