You must have noticed that Reddit’s threads are becoming increasingly popular on Google’s search engine. Regardless of the query or input, Reddit will always be at the forefront. This is because the company has partnered with firms like Google and OpenAI to share its data with them. However, the CEO of Reddit has now confirmed the company’s plan to develop a search engine.
Reddit’s in-house search engine is in the works
One of the best things about Reddit is that its data comes from real people and their conversations. And this is another reason why Google prefers to keep its results on the front page of its search results. But the company is aware of this potential benefit, and it wants this to be used in an advantageous way.
The CEO of Reddit, Steve Huffman, in a note to the company’s investors, claims that “the company is concentrating resources that will drive results for our most pressing needs,” including making Reddit a “go-to search engine“.
The CEO emphasises the strong user base of Reddit
He further adds in the note that “every week, hundreds of millions of people come to Reddit looking for advice, and we’re turning more of that intent into active users of Reddit’s native search.” The company wants to rely on the human voice, which is one of the strongest parts of the platform. He also cites a survey result claiming that a lot of users claimed that “some questions can only be answered by humans and not by artificial intelligence“.
Reddit currently has nearly 6 million weekly active users. It has noticed as much as 10x growth in the user query volume since the first quarter of the year. It has more than 70 million active users on the core search and more than 416.4 million weekly active unique users.
