Samsung Could Launch Display-Less Smart Glasses to Rival Meta Ray-Bans

Will wearables like smart glasses become the new tech standard in the future? There is a lot of potential in the form factor, but convincing the world to wear glasses, especially for those who aren’t used to it? That might be an issue. However, Samsung could be exploring a middle ground. According to South Korean publication Sedaily, Samsung could be working on a pair of display-less glasses.

The report suggests that Samsung is working on a pair of smart glasses that is display-less. This means that these smart glasses will be more like Meta’s Ray-Ban. So, instead of having a built-in display that projects images, it’ll be a regular pair of glasses or sunglasses with a speaker, microphone, and camera.
It might sound like a “downgrade” or not particularly high-tech, but it might actually be perfect. The Meta Ray-Bans might seem like a novel tech gadget, but it has proven to be surprisingly popular. The simplicity of it and its somewhat affordable price point has made it very attractive.
This is compared to more complex and comprehensive headsets like the Apple Vision Pro, which while powerful, has limited use. That being said, there is no word on when Samsung plans to launch these glasses. A report from last year suggested a 2025 launch, but that’s looking more unlikely with each passing day.
So, while Samsung could be heading in the direction of the Meta Ray-Bans, Meta could be headed the opposite way. According to the rumors, Meta could be working on new smart glasses with a built-in display. This would allow more advanced features, like an overlay of a map to help you get around, video calling, and more.
Then, there are rumors that Apple is also looking to get into the game. While Apple has the Vision Pro, it’s far from a portable device. The rumors claim that Apple has its own smart glasses in the works, which could debut in 2026. In any case, it looks like the smart glasses space is shaping up to be pretty competitive.
