The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is now official, and it’s a pretty large upgrade this year. Some might say that Samsung has finally caught up to its Chinese competition, like the OPPO Find N5, despite only upgrading one camera (technically two). That’s the primary sensor, which is now a 200-megapixel sensor.

On previous Samsung devices, I haven’t been all that impressed with the 200-megapixel sensor, to be quite honest. On the Galaxy S25 Ultra, I found that it really struggled with some details, shadows, and could be oversaturated at times. So, let’s see how well it stands up to the OPPO Find N5, one of the best foldable camera phones on the market today.

You can pre-order the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 today for $1,999. As usual, Samsung does have some pretty incredible deals for pre-orderers.

Despite offering the same sort of camera setups on both devices, these two do differ quite a bit when it comes to their cameras. So here’s the camera specs side-by-side.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs OPPO Find N5: Camera Samples

I took the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Find N5 to downtown Detroit and shot with them side-by-side, to get a variety of different pictures, with different colors and such.

In all of the images above, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is on the left, and the OPPO Find N5 is on the left. One of the biggest differences you’ll notice here is that the sky on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a tiny bit saturated. But I will say, it’s much better than it was on the Galaxy S25 Ultra at launch. In some of these pictures, it’s hard to even tell if its oversaturated or not.

Another thing I’ve noticed is the shadows. In some pictures where there are shadows, like the one with the Detroit People Mover, the street is darker, and so is the building behind the People Mover. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, since it was darker in real life, however that does affect the amount of details you’ll get in your image. This is also quite apparent in the image of the signs as well. It’s in between a bunch of tall buildings, so it was quite dark. Though, the Find N5 image does look brighter and offers more details.

The close-up of the Fox Theater, you can see that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 image is a bit cooler than the OPPO Find N5 which runs a bit warmer. The actual environment was somewhere in the middle. Personally, I prefer the Galaxy Z Fold 7 image on this one.

Moving to indoor environments, and even more challenging conditions, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 actually performed quite well. The images on the left and top are from the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and right and bottom are from OPPO Find N5.

Taking a look at the images of the lights – the Govee Table Lamp, and the Linkind Smart Hexagon panels – it’s obvious that Samsung handled these bright lights very well compared to OPPO. Specifically with the Smart Hexagon Panels. Those pictures weren’t taken at the exact same time, so the colors aren’t quite the exact same. But we can see that the OPPO Find N5 did blow out the background a bit, and messed up some of the colors.

The first image, isn’t as challenging, however it does a great job of showing just how much warmer the Find N5 is compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. In this instance, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is actually closer to the actual color temperature.

Which foldable has the better cameras?

As we did with smartphones a few years ago, foldables are not getting to the point where most have pretty good cameras. Sure they aren’t as flagship as some of the slab phones out there like the vivo X200 Ultra or the OPPO Find X8 Ultra – both of which have 1-inch sensors. But for most people, I feel like either the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or the OPPO Find N5 will be perfect, when it comes to the cameras.

Of course, OPPO does have an advantage with its AI zoom capabilities, offering some really great zooming results all the way up to 30x.

Now, those of us in the US don’t have much of a choice here, as the Find N5 is not available here. Though you can import it and it does work pretty well in the US, I’ve been using it on T-Mobile for the past few months.

Hopefully, next year we’ll see some nice upgrades to Samsung’s telephoto camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. As Samsung does typically upgrade one camera each generation on its flagship smartphones, and this year was the primary sensor.
