
Samsung has managed to increase its smartphone market share YoY (Year-over-Year), which is something IDC’s Q2 2025 report revealed. That report also reveals that more smartphones have been shipped in Q2 2025 than in the same period last year. Let’s talk about the details, shall we?
Samsung sells most smartphones in Q2 2025, as smartphone shipments surge worldwide
295.2 million smartphones were shipped in the second quarter of this year. So, in the period that includes April, May, and June. In the same period last year, 292.2 million smartphones were shipped.
IDC did reveal the top 5 smartphone manufacturers. Samsung sits at number one with 58 million shipments, as the company claimed 19.7% of the market. That’s a 7.9% growth year-over-year.

Apple is second-placed with 46.4 million smartphones sold, as the company claimed 15.7% of the market. Apple’s shipments also grew compared to the same period last year, by 1.5%. So, Samsung’s growth is considerably higher.
You’ll see that Xiaomi sits in third place with 42.5 million smartphones shipped, as the company claimed 14.4% of the market. Xiaomi’s shipments also grew YoY, by 0.6%.
Vivo took the fourth place with second-highest shipments growth
The fourth place is reserved for Vivo. The company shipped out 27.1 million smartphones in Q2 2025, as it claimed 9.2% of the market. Vivo also grew YoY; by 4.8%.
Transsion closes down the top 5 list, the parent company of TECNO. It managed to ship out 25.1 million smartphones, and thus claimed 8.5% of the market. Transsion actually shipped 1.7% less smartphones than last year. That makes it the only top 5 company to do worse this year than last year.
All the other companies combined shipped out 96.1 million phones, which is 32.6% of the overall market share. That means they shipped 3.1% less phones than a year ago. In other words, Samsung and Apple shipped out more devices than all the companies below fifth place combined.
