What separates a gaming monitor from a regular monitor? One of the more obvious differences would be refresh rate. Gaming monitors typically offer faster refresh rates than a regular office monitor. We’ve seen gaming displays with 320Hz refresh rates, but Samsung has gone one step further. Samsung has officially launched a 500Hz gaming monitor series in the US, and surprisingly, it won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

Samsung launches 500Hz gaming monitor in the US

The new Samsung 500Hz gaming monitor launch in the US consists of two models. This comes in the form of the Odyssey OLED G6 and the Odyssey G7, with the latter offered in either 37-inch or 40-inch sizes.

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 is a 27-inch QD-OLED gaming monitor with a QHD resolution. It also boasts ultra-fast 0.03ms response time, and an impressive 500Hz refresh rate with HDR support. It’s compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium Plus and Nvidia G-Sync. It supports HDR10+ Gaming and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certifications, and can hit peak brightness levels up to 1,000 nits. Samsung also addresses burn-in concerns with its OLED Safeguard+ tech. The company is also backing it with a three-year warranty.

The monitor is Pantone Validated for color accuracy, features a versatile adjustable stand, RGB lighting, anti-glare coating, and a range of ports including HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, and USB 3.2.

Alongside it, Samsung offers the 37-inch and 40-inch Odyssey G7 monitors. Both displays use curved VA panels. The 37-inch model delivers a 4K resolution at 165Hz, while the 40-inch features a 21:9 aspect ratio with a 180Hz refresh rate. They share a 1000R curvature, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, HDR10+ Gaming and VESA DisplayHDR 600 certifications, plus AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.

Both G7 models include gamer-oriented features like Black Equalizer and Virtual Aim Point. The port selections are similar to the G6. They also come with height-adjustable stands supporting tilt and swivel adjustments.

Pricing & availability

If you’re keen on picking up either model, like we said, these 500Hz refresh rate Samsung monitors are actually relatively affordable. The 27-inch Odyssey OLED G6 is priced at $999.99. The 37-inch Odyssey G7 will retail for $899.99, while the 40-inch model goes for $1,199.99.

We won’t go as far as saying they’re cheap. However, given the specs and features, it could be a somewhat affordable gaming monitor if you’re looking for one.
