Samsung has just announced its new foldables and smartwatches, at its Unpacked event in Brooklyn. These devices include the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Watch 8, and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. Here’s what you need to know about what Samsung just announced.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a much bigger upgrade this year than the Galaxy Z Fold typically is. The biggest changes you’ll notice when you first see the device are the thinness and the wider cover display. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is now just 4.2mm when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded. That’s a pretty massive change from 5.6mm and 12.1mm, respectively, on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. And that does make it much more competitive with the foldables coming out of China like the OPPO Find N5 and HONOR Magic V5.
But that’s not the only upgrade Samsung has this year; the cover display is also significantly wider this year. Making it almost the same aspect ratio as a traditional slab phone. With these two changes, Samsung has effectively fixed two of the biggest complaints with its foldables.
Samsung also finally upgraded the primary camera to a 200-megapixel sensor – the same sensor as the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Unfortunately, the other rear cameras remain the same – a 12-megapixel 3x telephoto and 10-megapixel ultrawide. However, the ultrawide does get autofocus, which is going to be a huge help for macro photography. The displays get the same 10-megapixel cameras this year, which means that the under-display camera is gone, and that’s likely a good thing. The under-display camera was pretty terrible and only 4 megapixels.
Despite being much thinner this year, Samsung was able to keep the same size battery in the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at 4,400mAh.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 gets much larger displays
Moving onto the Galaxy Z Flip 7, it is also getting some big display upgrades this year. Starting with the cover display, it has now grown to 4.1 inches, up from 3.7 last year. This is thanks to some very small bezels, which are about 1.35mm thick. As well as covering the entire front of the phone, with only camera cutouts. The inner display has also grown to 6.9 inches and it’s now a bit thicker, compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
A major downside to the larger cover display this year is, the fact that Samsung still doesn’t let you use any app you want on that display. You’re still limited to about six apps. These include Google Maps, Messages, Google Messages, Netflix, and YouTube. This is also still a “Labs” feature, which is pretty interesting, after almost three years. However, Gemini does work full-screen on that cover display, which is incredibly helpful, especially with Gemini Live.
However, there is a pretty major upgrade here, and that is DeX. After years of asking Samsung for this feature, Samsung has finally delivered. Now the Galaxy Z Flip 7 does have DeX support, allowing you to plug it into a monitor and get a desktop experience. A bit surprising since it does run “our latest 3nm processor” which is the Exynos 2500 this year, instead of a Snapdragon chip.
As far as specs go, it does also sport 12GB of RAM, 256GB or 512GB of storage and a 4300mAh capacity battery.

Samsung brings its squircle design to its entire Galaxy Watch lineup
Last year, with the Galaxy Watch Ultra debut, Samsung showed off a new design that is now making its way to the rest of its lineup. The Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic both get the squircle design now, essentially it’s a squircle base with a circular display. This makes the watches more durable, so you don’t have to worry about damaging your watch on hikes, runs, or bike riding.
The Galaxy Watch 8 is now quite a bit thinner than the Galaxy Watch 7. This wasn’t really noticeable until we went hands-on with it earlier this week. It’s noticeably thinner, and it’s going to take a bit of getting used to, particularly on the smaller 40mm.
Galaxy Watch 8 Classic does bring the iconic rotating bezel back, once again. Which does make it look quite thick compared to other Galaxy Watches in its lineup. It’ll be available in black and white.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra also gets a small upgrade this year, it doubles the storage to 64GB and is ditching the white titanium color for blue titanium.
