Many T-Mobile customers have long enjoyed the simplicity of “what you see is what you get” pricing. However, brace yourself, as things are about to change—at least for new lines. T-Mobile is reportedly discontinuing nearly all of its beloved tax-inclusive plans. This means that those extra taxes and fees will soon be added on top of your monthly bill.
T-Mobile reportedly discontinuing almost all tax-inclusive plans
This shift affects a wide range of the carrier lines beyond your primary smartphone. If you have a smartwatch, a hotspot, or other “Beyond the Smartphone” (BTS) lines, get ready to see those small but noticeable additions on your statement. Even if you’re happily on a grandfathered tax-inclusive voice plan, adding one of these non-voice lines will now come with the burden of extra taxes and fees.
The good news for existing users is that your current tax-inclusive lines are, well, grandfathered in. This means if you’re already enjoying the simplicity of all-in pricing on your voice plan or an existing smartwatch line, that won’t change. You’ll continue to pay the flat rate you’re used to. However, any new lines added for these non-voice services will be subject to the new pricing structure.
Changes would be implemented between today and tomorrow
The change reportedly kicked in as early as today, June 18th, or will begin tomorrow, June 19th. The only exception to this widespread change seems to be T-Mobile’s home internet plans, which will remain tax-inclusive. The new policy will probably generate criticism that adds to the many others that T-Mobile customers have had.
For many T-Mobile subscribers, the appeal of “taxes and fees included” was a major selling point. They offered transparency and predictability that competitors often lacked. While the core voice plans might remain untouched for existing customers, this move marks a significant departure from that philosophy for other device types. It’s a signal that the era of truly all-inclusive pricing at T-Mobile is largely coming to an end. So, it might be a good time to double-check your next bill.
