The Google Photos Reimagine feature may be heading to older Pixels

The Reimagine feature in Google Photos might be making its way to older Pixel models. The feature debuted on the Pixel 9 series. Leveraging AI, it allows users to transform parts of their photos using text prompts. The evidence of this reportedly surfaced back in September 2024. It now looks like the time has finally come.
This appears to be a server-side rollout from Google
A report in the Gapps Leaks Telegram group shows the feature appearing on a Pixel 8. Another user on the Android beta subreddit shared screenshots showing the new Google Photos editor and access to Reimagine. The user owns a Pixel 6, running on Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3. These reports indicate that Google is gradually enabling Magic Editor access across the Pixel 6, 7, and 8 series models.
However, this doesn’t mean to say that everyone on the latest app version and OS gets access to Reimagine. Some users running the same Google Photos version say they have the same old UI or don’t have access to it yet. It’s possible this limited access could be a server-side rollout, where Google might be enabling access remotely instead of pushing as an app or OS upgrade.

Transform your photos with Google Photos Reimagine
Reimagine is an AI-powered feature within Magic Editor. It allows users to tweak their images with more dramatic edits using just text prompts of what they want. Though launched with Pixel 9, the code for Reimagine and Auto Frame was reportedly found in builds for previous Pixel models. This suggested that a wider availability was planned. Having said this, it’s unclear when the Reimagine feature will make its way to a broader audience.
Either way, it’s worth checking out whether you have access to the Reimagine feature if you’re running the latest Google Photos beta and possibly a part of Google’s test group.
